Technical and Vocational Education plays a vital role in human resource development of the country by creating skilled manpower, enhancing industrial productivity and improving the quality of life. The present Indian Labour force in the age group of 20-24 is having only 5% as vocationally trained. This is far below the global standards. It is 90% in Korea, 82% in Germany and 80% in Japan. India enjoys a great advantage today of having the largest population of young people in the world. India has the capacity to create 500 million certified and skilled technicians by 2022. Present Industrial Scenario identified Empowerment of Women as one of the vital objectives of the Plan and had stressed on the preparation of 'Component Plans for Women' in every sector of development. It was felt that there is now need to "Engender the Development Process". An attempt in this direction would require identification of major constraints, which hamper the productivity of women technicians, and recommend appropriate policy and institutional measures to overcome constraints. These measures may be in terms of separate training for them, access to technology, imparting new skills through a combination of theoretical training and practical demonstrations supplemented with hands on experiences in the shop- floor. Tamil Nadu is one of the highly industrialized states in India. As a step towards this Objective, 12 Government ITIs exclusively meant for Women and 3 Women Wings in General ITI are functioning in Tamilnadu.. In today's market, having a web presence to enable users to interact with this Institute through Internet is practically a necessity.
