HISTORY OF OUR I.T.I.

The Government Industrial Training Institute , Thirukkuvalai was established in the year 1998. It was established with the help of World Bank. The Institute originally started functioning in the premises of Thriukkuvali, Ettugudi SRI MURUGAN TEMPLE Marrige Hall and Ettugudi Panchayat Union building . In the beginning it offered training in Four trades like Electrician, Computer Operator cum Programming Assistant (COPA), Mechanic Desial Engine and Welder.

Later, on 04.02.2011 the Institute moved to this building and started. The Institution is affiliated to the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT), New Delhi that provides the approval through the Directorate General of Training (DGT) under the Ministry of Labour, Government of India, New Delhi and the training is imparted as per the syllabus and curriculum approved by Government of India in consultation with National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT).

The institute also underwent a vast change with the introduction of PPP scheme as per the instruction of government. Government of India has supported PPP by funding 2.5 crores towards the establishment of PPP.  Since the introduction of PPP the institute has got a new shine and vigour.  Principal of the institute acts as the secretary the chairman of PPP is Shri. S.Ravi Aiyar of Executive Director, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.

New trades under PPP started the training since 2017.  One new trade (FITTER) has been established under PPP. The Institute has highly qualified & amp; experienced faculty members and excellent infrastructural support in the form of well-equipped laboratories and other resources. The Institute is coming up with all workshop and other infrastructural facilities for carrying out the various training programs to meet the current development in the field of vocational training curriculum.  Trainees attend the All India Trade Test  from all the trades in two semesters i.e. in the month of February and August every year.

Eligible Candidates are admitted to all the courses in the month of August every year as per the norms established by NCVT.  Candidates apply for the courses through online. Admission to this institute is carried on as per the norms of the State government.  The reservation criteria of the Government of Tamil Nadu is followed.  The admission is processed  vide counseling provided by the nodal institute of the district i.e. Govt. ITI in Nagappattinam.
