His Excellency Sri Moolam Rama Varma Thirunal, the King of Trivancore has donated this land with an ancient building with 78 cent lands (Kottaram - which was once known as rest house of the King’s of Trivancore) for the Upliftment of Women in this locality through formal education in Weaving Trades. Once upon a time Vadasery, a village one kilometer away from Nagercoil was very prominent in Hand Weaving industry just like Balaramapuram near Trivandrum. Once Nagercoil was the part of Trivancore province and it was very prominent in weaving industries and cater the needs of not only this district but also other states. Due to the weaning of this industry informally skilled laborers were migrated to Balaramapuram for their lively hoods Kerala Government formed a Society called HANTEX for the sustenance of this laborers to avert annihilation of this traditional trade. Now this trade is not available in this Govt ITI due to its unpopularity and this Unit was transferred to Govt ITI Coimbatore which is popular in that locality. This institute was handed over to Govt of TamilNadu after the integration of this district with Tamil Nadu and it was upgraded as full fledged SMRV Govt. I.T.I (W), Nagercoil with effect from 1/8/1982 vide G.O.Ms.No.1029 Labour and Employment Department dated 22-5-1982.

This institute is located in the heart of Nagercoil With COPA, DTPO, DRESS MAKING, STENO, TME, FDT, ARCH.DRAUGHTSMAN, ELE(MECH) Trades Tamil Nadu Government provides excellent benefits like Free Bus pass, Free supply of Books, Laptop, Cycle, Uniform, Monthly stipend of Rupees 750/- in order to promote trainees to pursue training with more involvement. This institute is the only one institute exclusively functioning for the welfare of women in Tirunelveli Region. In 1999 a workshop building for Computer Operator and Programming Assistant in 2118 sq.ft under TRYSEM SCHEME at the expenditure of Rs. 7.5 lakhs provided by the Rural Development Agency. Since then it is being utilized for Dress Making and DTPO trades.
