ABOUT THE INSTITUTION

The government is taking so many measures to uplift the tribal people. Giving them skill training plays a major role in uplifting them. In order to provide skill training, this government industrial training institute was started at Kollihills in Namakkal District, where the population of the Schedule Tribe is higher. This institute is one of the five institutes started exclusively for Schedule Tribes. The Government Industrial Training Institute (ST), Kollihills, under the Department of Employment and Training, Government of Tamil Nadu, was started in 2013 for the welfare of Schedule Tribe students. This institute is functioning with five trades: Fitter, Electrician, Mechanic Diesel, and Welder, which are four engineering trades and one non-engineering trade for sewing technology. All the trades are affiliated with the National Council of Vocational Training under the Director General of Training, New Delhi. The trainees who successfully pass the trade test will be issued an NCVT certificate. This institute caters to the requirement for skilled manpower in the industries in and around Coimbatore. This institute is situated about 1 km from the Semmedu bus stand. It is located in the Eastern Ghats and has a lush green background. A hostel for boys is functioning inside the campus with a capacity of fifty students. The hostel is run by the Department of Adi Dravidar Welfare. Inmates of the hostel are provided with free food. An Institute Management Committee, which comprises the Regional Joint Director of Training, industry members, the District Industries Centre, the District Employment and Career Guidance Centre, and student members, is formed in this institute to develop the institute. This committee is headed by TiTAN Company Limited, Bengaluru. This committee meets once every three months and discusses various aspects of developing this institute. Trainees who have completed their course got placement in industries in and around Namakkal, Karur, Salem, and Chennai with an attractive salary ranging from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000.
