This scheme was introduced in 1950s by Government of India with an objective to provide semi-skilled workmen to industries. This scheme is being implemented through Industrial Training Institutes and helps to improve the employability of youth.
Craftsmen Training plays a pivotal role in providing skilled manpower to the Industry. The economy of a country mainly revolves around its Industrial production. The Industry is in need of skilled manpower for its production and growth. After successful completion of training, National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) Level Certification is awarded by National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT).
* | Government Industrial Training Institutes: In Tamil Nadu, 102 Government Industrial Training Institutes are functioning which includes 10 Government ITIs for women, two for Scheduled Caste, six for Scheduled Tribe and one for jail inmates |
* | Trades: Training is imparted in 56 Engineering and 23 Non- Engineering trades. |
* | Admission: Every year admission is made during the month of June / July through online State level Counseling is based on merit and communal rotation. |
* | Trainees onroll: During 2023-24, 64,117 trainees undergoing training. . |
* | Eligibility for Admission: 8th pass or 10th pass based on the trade selected. |
* | Age Criteria: 14 to 40 years. No upper age limit for girls. |
* | Duration of Training: 6 Months to 2 Years based on the trades. |
* | Fee Structure: Free Training |
* | Stipend: Monthly stipend @ Rs.750/- to all the trainees |
* | Other facilities: Laptop, Bi-cycle, Books, Drawing instruments, Uniform, Shoe, identity cards and supply of raw materials are issued at free of cost. |
* | Testing : All India Trade Test is conducted by National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) under Annual exam pattern. |
* | Certification: Successful trainees are awarded with National Trade Certificate (NTC). |
* | Employment: Self Employment or Job opportunities in industries as Technicians |
Augmentation Of Training Capacity
* | In a span of 8 eight years 30 new ITIs have been established in the State at Bodi, Veppalodai, Aruppukottai, Radhapuram, Thiruvaiyaru, Karumandurai, Anaicutti, Gudalur, Jamunamaruthur, Kolli Hills, Manikandam, Chinnasalem, Kattumannarkoil, Kadayanallur, Udumalaipet, Orthanadu, Viralimalai, Tindivanam, Alathur, Sattur, R.K.Nagar, Central Prison Trichy, Vaniyambadi, Kottur, Gobichettypalayam, Perumbakkam ,Sembodai,Oragadam and Neyveli. |
* | The establishment of these ITIs has added a capacity of 6,270 seats enabling rural youth to undergo employable skill training. |
* | 50 new trades in 53 Government ITIs have added another 2510 seats in emerging sectors viz., Technician Medical Electronics, Technician Power Electronics, Operator Advanced Machine Tools, Tool & Die Maker, Fire Technology & Industrial Safety Management etc., |
