RJD Message: Technical and Vocational Education plays a vital role in human resource development of the country by creating skilled manpower, enhancing industrial productivity and improving the quality of life. The present Indian Labour force in the age group of 20-24 is having only 5% as vocationally trained. This is far below the global standards. It is 90% in Korea, 82% in Germany and 80% in Japan.

India enjoys a great advantage today of having the largest population of young people in the world. India has the capacity to create 500 million certified and skilled technicians by 2022. It was felt that there is now need to "Engender the Development Process".

These measures may be in terms of separate training for ITI trainees, access to technology, imparting new skills through a combination of theoretical training and practical demonstrations supplemented with hands on experiences in the shop- floor. Tamil Nadu is one of the highly industrialized states in India.
